In Coronado you will be at Naval Amphibious Base, where the SEALs recruits are training, save yourself the ass kicking and let them be. If you do not properly prepare yourself for this, you will FAIL, and they aren't likely to recycle you in Coronado.

You will have written tests, as well as graded missions on the simulator there, and 1 live fire out on San Clemente Island.

Pay attention because you will use this in the fleet. In this course you will cover several subjects including NSFS ships and ordnance, NGF call for fire, you will also cover Close Air Support, and have a week of AFATDS (Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data Systems). Remember, they can't help if you don't ask. Ssgt Peskuski stayed after class with me on several occaisions to assure I knew the material. They will offer you as much help as you need. The instructors at this course are of the highest grade and there is no reason you should fail this course. IF YOU MISTAKE THEIR KINDNESS FOR WEAKNESS YOUR LIFE WILL BE MISERABLE. YOU ARE HELD TO THE HIGHEST OF STANDARDS THERE, AND YOU WILL ABIDE BY THE RULES SET FORTH BY THE INSTRUCTORS.
Field artillery mos marines full#
When you get there you will have full fleet liberty, so don't lose your frickin minds!!! Upon completion of Masoc you will attend the Fire Support Man Course, EWTGPAC (Expeditionary Warfare Training Group, Pacific) in Coronado, CA. If you are an NCO, I hear it is seldom you get recycled, if you fail the class, you are screwed. THAT MEANS YOU WILL BE RECYCLED INTO THE NEXT CLASS, OR BE DROPPED TO A DIFFERENT MOS. FAILURE IN ANY 3 EVENTS, AND YOU WILL FLUNK OUT. You will be administered a written test every week, and have 3 graded live fire missions that you will have to pass. I had Marines in my class that were 90+ on their ASVAB's and flunked out. Others will become Bulk Fuel, or 0811 Cannoneers.Įven if you regard yourself as being intelligent, I STRONGLY suggest you study! The instructors there have high expectations, and a few of them are dry, and are not experienced teachers. Each cycle will not graduate Marines, some will be recycled into the next class. It is important to note that about 9 out of 30 students on average, will not pass the class. The course will be about 6 weeks long and will cover subjects such as Map Reading, Land Navigation, Targeting, CFF (Call For Fire), Registrations, FSCM's (Fire Support Coordination Measures) and so on. YOU ARE HELD TO A VERY HIGH STANDARD IN MASOC!!! Many people are awaiting training for weeks before they actually start the course. If you are an NCO you will probably get there a day or two within the start of the course, which is a good thing. I still see Pvt's coming into the fleet because they get busted down in Ft Sill. If you are underage, SAVE YOURSELF the trouble and DO NOT DRINK. There really isn't much to do other than drink at the impact zone. Fort Sill is a gloomy place, the weather sucks there pretty much year round.

This post is for any new 0861's that had questions about their MOS schools:įirst you will attend the Marine Artillery Scout Observers Course (Masoc) in Fort Sill, OK.
